Bodies of woman and man found in Newtown unit

Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide after the bodies of a woman and a man were found inside a unit in Newtown.

The bodies of the woman, aged in her 20s, and the man in his 30s, were discovered inside the unit on King Street by police at about 5:30pm on Friday.

Police attended the unit after an individual who knew the pair raised concerns for their welfare. It is understood the man and woman knew each other.

Marrickville Local Area Command Inspector Geoff Olsen said investigators suspected the deaths were a murder-suicide. But he stressed they were investigating other possible scenarios.

The residential unit is located above a Persian restaurant at the northern end of the busy King Street thoroughfare.

Workers at the Persian restaurant and the neighbouring Japanese restaurant said they did not know who lived in the unit and had no contact with them.

Police have established Strike Force Tenisonwood to investigate the deaths. Investigators were still combing the unit for evidence on Saturday afternoon.

Strike Force Tenisonwood consists of officers from the Newtown Local Area Command, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Detectives have asked anyone with information, and who hasn’t already spoken with police, to come forward. /*\n”,color:”blue”, title:”Bodies found”, maxWidth:200, open:0}] );}if (!window.googleMaps_Icons) window.googleMaps_Icons = {};window.googleMaps_Icons[“blue”] = {“marker”:{“image”:”http://maps.gstatic老域名出售/mapfiles/ms2/micons/blue-pushpin.png”},”shadow”:{“image”:”http://maps.gstatic老域名出售/mapfiles/ms2/micons/pushpin_shadow.png”}};if (!window.gmapsLoaders) window.gmapsLoaders = [];window.gmapsLoaders.push(CreateGMapgmap2018013125455);window.gmapsAutoload=true;/*]]>*/
