TweetFacebookAll Newcastle beaches, except Stockton Beach, are closed today due to dangerous surf. Lifeguards warn that the heavy, rough surf is not suitable for water activities and people should use extra caution even when beach walking.

Swell from the S/E at 1 to 1.5m.Wind light N/W tending East to N/E during the afternoon.

Banks off Divider,South Bar,Dixon and Pogos.On high,Merewether and Bar Reef.Burwood,Redhead and Frechmans to the south.One Mile and Birubi up at Port Stephens.Smaller conditions for Sunday.

Water is murky in with some kelp at Merewether.Only go to patrolled beaches if not a strong swimmer.Water temps 22C.
